Former militant leader and Niger Delta activist, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has warned Boko Haram insurgents to stay away from Port Harcourt, declaring that he would not hesitate to confront and kill any terrorist who attempts to operate in the city.

In a viral video posted on Tuesday amid rising cases of killings and kidnappings across the country, Asari-Dokubo said his commitment as a Muslim would not prevent him from defending himself or his community if attacked.

“If Boko Haram comes to Port Harcourt, you know sey my business na to kill them,” he said. “I dey Zamfara dey kill them, I dey Plateau dey kill them, I dey Niger dey kill them. If they come to Port Harcourt, my business is to kill them. I am a Muslim. If you come to fight me, I will kill you. That one is no compromise.”

His remarks have renewed public debate over his influence in security matters and his long, controversial history as a former militant commander.

Asari-Dokubo, an Ijaw activist and businessman, rose to prominence through the Ijaw Youth Council, where he served as president in 2001. He later founded the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, which carried out armed operations against oil interests in the region during the height of the Niger Delta crisis.

Detained on treason charges in 2005 and released in 2007, he was eventually granted a presidential pardon in 2011. Since then, he has ventured into business and private security, with links to multimillion-naira pipeline protection contracts. His company, Royal Foushe Security Services, has handled several operations, including the rescue of 19 hostages in May 2025.

Asari-Dokubo, who converted from Christianity to Islam in the 1990s, has also diversified into education and invested in the Benin Republic. Earlier this year, he was installed as the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Rivers State.

He remains a vocal political figure, known for shifting alliances and making fiery public statements on national issues, including threats to resist foreign involvement in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
