The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced the results of the recently concluded local government elections, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner in 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in 3 councils.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the RSIEC Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, at the commission’s headquarters.
Dr. Odey revealed that 18 political parties participated in the elections, which saw a large turnout of voters across the state.
The APC recorded strong performances across several LGAs, emerging victorious in: Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku Toru, Andoni, Asari Toru, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Emohua, Etche, Gokana, Ikwerre,
Khana, Ogu/Bolo, Okrika, Omuma, Opobo/Nkoro, Oyigbo, and Tai
Meanwhile, the PDP secured wins in the following LGAs: Obio-Akpor: Gift Worlu – 328,823 votes,
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni: Shedrack Chuku – 51,051 votes, and Port Harcourt City: Allwell Ihunda – 235,054 votes.
The election was largely peaceful, with many voters expressing appreciation to both the government and the electoral commission for a smooth process.
Among those who praised the conduct of the polls was FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who voted in his hometown of Rumuepirikom, Ward 9, Unit 007, in Obio/Akpor LGA.
