The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, also known as Power Sharp, for allegedly murdering his 44-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny, with a machete.

According to a statement from the command on Tuesday, the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, in the Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that following the crime, the suspect fled to Egbeta village in Edo State, where he reportedly issued threats to the victim’s family, claiming he could harm them without facing consequences.

Acting on a formal complaint and under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit deployed technical intelligence to track down the suspect. He was apprehended on August 15, 2025, in his hideout.

During interrogation, Chinamezu reportedly confessed to the crime and provided a detailed account of the events leading to the murder.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence and conducting further profiling to determine if he is connected to other crimes. He will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift action of the operatives and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to justice and public safety.

He warned that Rivers State will not serve as a refuge for criminals, urging those involved in violent crimes to desist or face the full weight of the law.
