Martyn Latchman, a 38-year-old British man, has died following complications from a hair transplant procedure at the Cinik Clinic in Besiktas, Istanbul. He was rushed to the hospital after the surgery, but sadly passed away earlier this week.

Turkish authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident, reportedly on the grounds of “reckless homicide.” The Istanbul Province Health Directorate has questioned staff and medical personnel at the clinic, which boasts a 4.8-star rating on Google.

Latchman’s body has since been repatriated to the UK, where family and friends have shared tributes on social media.

From 2016 to 2024, Mr. Latchman served as Assistant Headteacher and Head of Computer Science at Goldington Academy. In 2024, he transitioned to a role as a network administrator for a private defence contractor in Northampton.

An alumnus of De Montfort University, Latchman earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, later completing a Master’s in Education at the University of Bedfordshire.Beyond his professional life, Mr. Latchman was active in charity work.

In December 2022, he ran 10 kilometers every day until Christmas, raising £1,870 for Tree of Hope, a charity supporting seriously ill children. His efforts were dedicated to helping the five-year-old son of a childhood friend in Wales.

Turkey has become an increasingly popular destination for medical tourism, particularly for cosmetic procedures like hair transplants, due to significantly lower costs.

A transplant that might cost between £3,000 and £10,000 in the UK can be as little as £1,500 in Turkey.
