Controversial street-pop artist Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.

Portable appeared before the court on Monday in connection with charges of defamation brought against him by veteran Fuji musician Akorede Saheed, widely known as Saheed Osupa.

The case stems from a series of online videos and comments in which Portable allegedly made defamatory remarks about Osupa, sparking public outrage and a formal complaint by the Fuji star. The details of the allegations have not been fully disclosed, but they are believed to involve claims damaging to Osupa’s reputation and career.

During Monday’s proceedings, the court granted Portable bail for ₦1 million but attached conditions that have proven difficult for the singer to fulfill.

According to the court, he must provide two sureties in like sum: one must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must be a property owner residing in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ilorin and present a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

Unable to satisfy these conditions immediately, Portable was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

Known for his breakout hit Zazoo Zeh, Portable has built a career on street anthems and flamboyant behavior. He often courted controversy with his social media presence and public altercations. He has previously clashed with law enforcement and music industry figures, earning a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most polarizing entertainers.
