A young woman, identified as Omole Bidemi, died under unclear circumstances over the weekend, triggering outrage in the Oke-Esa area of Esa-Oke, located in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

According to residents, Bidemi had left home around 9 p.m. on Friday, reportedly on her way to a church vigil, but made a stop at her boyfriend’s house on Oke-Esa Street. Less than 30 minutes later, news of her sudden death spread through the community.

A resident, Tosin Adeola, told newsmen that Bidemi was known for regularly attending Friday night vigils. “On that day, she left home around 9 p.m., but instead of heading directly to church, she visited her boyfriend, Yinka. Not long after, we heard she had died,” Adeola said.

The unexpected news led to a tense atmosphere, as residents gathered at the scene demanding answers regarding her death. However, the timely intervention of the police helped to prevent a violent escalation, with the boyfriend, Yinka, taken into custody.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the police received a report that the young woman became ill shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s home. Witnesses reportedly observed a foam-like substance coming from her mouth before she was rushed to a hospital.

“Unfortunately, she died on the way to the hospital, prompting unrest in the community,” Ojelabi stated. “Thanks to the quick response of our officers, the situation was brought under control.”

He added that Bidemi’s body has been deposited at the hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The police have since launched a full investigation and assured the public of transparency and justice in the matter.
