Top stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s legitimate National Secretary and called for the 2027 presidential ticket to be zoned to the South.
The resolutions came after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Monday, where party leaders gathered under the banner of the “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP” to address ongoing internal crises.
Reading the communiqué, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the reaffirmation of Anyanwu was in line with the PDP constitution and a Supreme Court ruling. He emphasised that only the National Secretary has the power to issue notices for key party meetings, including those of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC).
“Any meeting notices or INEC correspondences not issued by him are null and void,” Wike stated.
The group warned that internal divisions and disregard for the party’s constitution were threatening its survival. To halt this decline, they called for strict adherence to legal processes and immediate recognition of Anyanwu’s position.
On the 2027 elections, the stakeholders demanded that the PDP’s presidential ticket be zoned to the South. Wike argued this move would promote fairness, inclusion, and respect for the party’s principles, especially after years of northern leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari.
They also backed the efforts of the party’s National Reconciliation Committee, led by Senator Bukola Saraki, and urged members to resist divisive moves.
Attendees included former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Philip Aduda, and other party leaders from across Nigeria.
