Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a wanted kidnapping suspect in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, carried out as part of the newly launched OPERATION ZAFIN WUTA, followed credible intelligence that led to the apprehension of Umar Musa Geyi at Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari.

According to a statement by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Geyi has long been on the radar of security agencies and is believed to be a key member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorising several communities in the area.

Preliminary investigations link the suspect to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala general area, who was kidnapped on November 13, 2025, and is still in captivity. Troops intercepted Geyi while he was on a phone call confirming that the victim remained held and demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.

The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing further interrogation aimed at locating the victim and facilitating his safe rescue.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their swift action and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, rescuing abductees, and restoring peace in Taraba State. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing security agencies with timely, credible information.
