Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men posing as police officers while transporting a large consignment of cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, took place at Takum Junction, where troops intercepted two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with 1,134 blocks of substances suspected to be cannabis.
Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, said the arrest followed credible intelligence. The suspects were identified as 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche. Both were dressed in mobile police uniforms at the time of their arrest, though preliminary investigations confirmed that neither is a serving officer.
According to authorities, the drugs were traced to Akure, Ondo State, and were headed to Adamawa State before being intercepted in Taraba. Another group of traffickers traveling in a separate Hilux vehicle reportedly abandoned their vehicle and fled on sighting the troops. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
The suspects and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the success of the joint operation and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Taraba. He also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information..
