President Bola Tinubu is set to meet former US president Donald Trump amid renewed concern over reports of attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

The meeting was disclosed by Tinubu’s special adviser on policy communication, Daniel Bwala, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Bwala said the two leaders share a common interest in tackling insurgency and terrorism, noting that Trump previously approved arms sales to Nigeria during his time in office.

“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.

He added that Trump had “assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms”, which Tinubu had “adequately utilised in the fight against terrorism” with “massive results to show for it”.

Bwala said the leaders were expected to meet either at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington, though no specific date was given.

He also suggested that any disagreement over whether terrorist groups in Nigeria specifically target Christians, or attack people of all faiths, would be discussed during the talks.

“The differences, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days,” he wrote.
