Over 200 lives lost in Benue Killings

President Bola Tinubu has announced he will visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 19, in response to recent attacks that left several people dead. The attacks were reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani herders.
Tinubu made the announcement on Monday while commissioning parts of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network. He said he had spoken with Benue’s leaders and urged residents to remain calm and united.
“I sympathize with the people of Benue. We are one big family, living in different rooms of the same house. We must manage our anger and frustrations and live in peace,” the President said.
“I will adjust my schedule and visit Benue on Wednesday.”
The visit is meant to show support and find long-term solutions to the violence. Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the President will meet with traditional rulers, political leaders, religious groups, and youth representatives during his stay. A town hall meeting with all key stakeholders is also planned.
To prepare for the visit, Tinubu has already sent several top officials to Benue, including:
- The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
- The Inspector General of Police (IGP)
- The National Security Adviser (NSA)
- Heads of intelligence agencies
- The Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees
President Tinubu has repeatedly condemned the violence in Benue and called for peace and understanding. He also offered condolences to the families of victims and others affected by the conflict.
Tinubu was originally scheduled to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission state projects. That visit has now been moved to Thursday, June 20.
