A former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed joy at the bond that exists between him and his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Buhari remarked on a telephone call with Tinubu, on the occasion of the latter’s 73rd birthday, stressing that they share a political and historical commitment to national development.

“When we pray for our leaders, we are ultimately praying for the well-being of the nation. This is a responsibility we all share,” Buhari said, according to a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Garba Shehu.

Reflecting on their collaboration within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari acknowledged the contributions of Tinubu and other party leaders in shaping the political landscape.

He credited their efforts for the APC’s emergence as a dominant force, securing his two-term presidency and paving the way for another administration under Tinubu’s leadership.

“The history of Nigeria’s democracy would be incomplete without recognizing President Tinubu’s significant role—as a political strategist, party leader, and advocate for democratic governance,” Buhari stated.

He further highlighted the APC’s 2015 electoral victory as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, emphasizing that the party’s mandate was to lay the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

Buhari concluded by extending his best wishes to President Tinubu, his family, and all Nigerians for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and a joyous Eid celebration.
