A yet-to-be-identified policeman has allegedly shot and killed a teenager known as DMX in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday following an altercation between the officer and the victim.

According to sources, the disagreement escalated, leading the policeman to shoot the teenager in the leg. Friends of the victim were said to have rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive the gunshot wound.

“DMX had an issue with a police officer. The altercation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends came and rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost a significant amount of blood,” the source said.

The incident gained public attention after an X user, @Sturbyrich65562, raised an alarm online, insisting that the teenager did not physically confront the officer.

“Naija police killed one of my area gees. Though he’s a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman. He was shot in Ibadan. I think the policeman was trigger-happy based on what I heard,” the user posted while tagging an anti-cultism advocacy group.

The group, in a separate post, also alleged that delays in medical attention contributed to the teenager’s death.

“He was rushed to the hospital alive, and payment was made for blood. However, his friends claim that delays and negligence from the hospital, even after payment, contributed to his death,” the platform stated, adding that DMX’s father is reportedly a senior police officer.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Oyefeso, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered and a text message was not returned as of the time of filing this report.

The shooting has renewed concerns over the conduct of security operatives, particularly regarding the excessive use of force.
