The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of suspected remains of a police inspector who was earlier declared missing in the Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama, said the remains are believed to be those of Inspector Mohammed Yakubu of the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF), attached to Operation Zenda Joint Task Force, who went missing on June 13, 2025, at Tse Keleke, about 10 kilometres from Daudu.

It was gathered that on December 18, at about 9:30 a.m., actionable intelligence led security operatives to a decayed corpse discovered in a bush close to the location where the officer was last seen, raising strong suspicion that it was the missing inspector.

Following the development, a joint security team comprising the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Metro Makurdi, the Divisional Police Officer of Daudu, police medical personnel, operatives of the State Intelligence Service, officers of the 13 PMF, personnel of Operation Zenda Joint Task Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Benue State Civil Protection Guards was deployed to the area.

The team recovered skeletonised remains from the scene, which were subsequently conveyed to the 13 PMF base for further procedures.

Police authorities said arrangements are being made to release the remains to the family of the deceased officer for a dignified burial after necessary consultations.

The Benue State Police Command described the recovery as bringing closure to a long-standing missing-in-action case involving the officer.
