Suspected members of the Lakurawa armed group have reportedly attacked Dadin-Kowa community in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing several residents and injuring many others during Taraweeh prayers.

The incident was disclosed on Thursday by security analyst and crisis journalist Bakatsine in a post on his X handle.

According to the report, the attackers stormed the community on Wednesday night and targeted worshippers observing prayers at a mosque. The assault reportedly led to multiple fatalities, while several other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Sources said the mosque was also desecrated during the attack, further heightening tension within the community.

Bakatsine described the incident as a grim reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He questioned how individuals who kill innocent worshippers inside a mosque during Ramadan could claim to represent Islam, stressing that such actions only damage the image of the religion and incite hostility against the faith.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement confirming the attack or providing details on casualties and possible arrests.
