The traditional ruler of Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Obukowho Whiskey, Udurhie I, has urgent people of the Niger Delta region to create an enabling and peaceful environment in the region for the Presidential Amnesty Programme to succeed.
HRM Udurhie I noted that the PAP under Dr Dennis Otuaro deserved the collaboration and support of stakeholders in the region, positing that the programme was on the right track.
The National Chairman of Host Communities of Nigeria (HOSCON) Traditional Rulers and Elders Advisory Council, made the calls in a signed statement to newsmen on Sunday evening.
He expressed sadness that some persons he termed “self-centred” whom he sent were bent on discrediting the laudable efforts of the PAP boss, Udurhie I.
He emphasized that Dr. Otuaro was doing “everything humanly possible to reposition the PAP office.
He urged stakeholders to consider dialogue in expressing their grievances, rather than protests and petitions.
“Our region and our political appointees cannot achieve the desired result if all we do daily is to protest and write petitions to undermine their concerted efforts. Let’s consult with our sons and daughters in government instead of this dangerous approach of always dragging down our people.
“Collectively, we can achieve more, but individually we cannot achieve anything. As a critical stakeholder in the PAP programme, I am convinced that Dr Dennis Otuaro is on the right track, all that is needed is collective support so that greater results can be achieved,” the monarch said.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to consider an upward review of the monthly stipends to ex-agitators.
“The Federal should convoke a critical stakeholders meeting and look at the possibilities of reviewing the N60,000 monthly stipends for the ex-agitators, that amount can no longer sustain their families and dependants” the monarch stated.
