Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have recovered a Toyota Sienna van containing items suspected to be cannabis and other exhibits during a routine stop-and-search operation.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ben Hundeyin, via the Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Ojo Division intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna during a patrol on August 15, 2025. While requesting the driver’s identification and vehicle documents, the driver suddenly fled the scene with the car key, abandoning the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the van revealed several incriminating items.
“Recovered from the vehicle were one Army jungle hat, two ATM cards, and two bags containing substances suspected to be cannabis,” the statement read.
The vehicle and exhibits have been handed over to Special Squad 2 at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja for further investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift response of the Ojo Division officers and reiterated the Command’s dedication to apprehending the fleeing suspect.
He also assured residents of enhanced patrols and intelligence-driven policing across the state, urging the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activity.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have pledged to bring the suspect to justice.
