Says Governor Ungrateful, Fought His Helpers

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shaibu, has advised his estranged boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki to go back and apologize to the people of the state and everyone he offended as his administration winds down.

Shaibu said Obaseki had been demystified and exposed as a political lightweight by the outcome of Saturday’s election, where Obaseki’s handpicked candidate, Mr Asue Ighodalo, lost to the All Progressive Congress candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Shaibu, who fell out with the governor over their political differences, joined forces with the APC and helped perfect the PDP’s defeat in the election, taunted Obaseki for losing his Oredo LGA to APC.

In an interview with Arise TV monitored by our team, Shaibu said, “I am excited to have also cancelled that negative impression and blackmail that I have been flying and that Philip Shaibu does not win his ward. That is a lie, I have never lost my ward, and I have never lost my unit.

“Today I have the highest votes from my unit in the entire 192 wards and over 4,000 units. In the wards, units and the LGA I have the highest vote. Those who have been blackmailing me can see.

“Even the governor did not win his LGA. I am first from my unit to the wards and LGA. Where is the governor’s result? He has never won. We have always assisted him. Unfortunately, he got the power and he decided to start kicking us and removing the ladder. It is very unfortunate., and I hope he learns his lesson.

“What is left for him now, if he wants to think, is to go back and start begging and apologizing to the people of Edo state and he has a lot of them to beg,” Shaibu, who was impeached by Obaseki-backed lawmakers of Edo State House of Assembly, but reinstated by the court, said.

Speaking further the deputy described himself as ‘water’, noting that he does not harbour enmity in his heart. “For those who regard themselves as my enemies, I always pray for them to live long and see how God’s grace in my life and I continue to flourish.”

“I am happy to be counted among those who have helped the APC to regain the seat of government in Edo State. I prayed and worked for it,” he stated.
