Nollywood actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has appealed to Nigerians to desist from insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, amid her ongoing marital crisis with her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the actress addressed the controversies surrounding her marriage, stating that her mother had no hand in her decision to marry the politician.
“The main essence of this video is to please, stop insulting my mom,” Regina said. “For some reason, I feel like I owe you all this explanation because I don’t know why everyone is in pain about my life. My mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me. She’s my god on earth. She’s been strong for seven years. You all insulted her, but she tried. It’s me. I’m the one with the coconut head. I fell in love — truly.”
Regina dismissed claims that she married Nwoko out of greed, insisting that her family was financially stable before the marriage.
“Stop saying I got married out of greed. No, we were not broke. And what money can a man give to a mother to get her child, who practically provides everything in the house? My mom trained all her children through me. I was a blessing to her,” she said.
The actress went on to reveal that she once contemplated suicide due to pressure surrounding her relationship.
“My family did not want me to marry Ned. Everyone warned me — my mom, my brothers — but I still went ahead. I even drove out at night and almost took my life. They were all looking for me,” she recounted tearfully.
Despite the turmoil, Regina expressed her continued respect for her estranged husband, emphasizing that her current focus is on protecting and raising their children, Munir and Khalifa.
“I still care and respect him. That’s love — care and respect. The only reason I’m not fighting you, Ned, is because I want our children’s father’s name to be strong,” she said. “But I’ll fight for my children. I’ll train them, raise them — with or without your support.”
The actress also acknowledged the strong support she has received from her family and fans since the crisis began.
“My family is in turmoil, but we’ll come out of it. Everyone is fighting for me — my brothers, my mom, my sisters. I’m doing this for them and for my children,” she added.
Regina’s video comes weeks after reports of her marital issues surfaced in October, when she accused Senator Nwoko of physically assaulting her. The lawmaker has since denied the allegations, claiming her behaviour was influenced by substance abuse.
Neither Regina Daniels nor Ned Nwoko has provided further details on the status of their marriage as of the time of this report.
