Indications have emerged that the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, may approve a 10% rise in GSM call and data prices, amidst agitations by operators in the country.

Already, the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, NATCOMS, has appealed to the NCC to approve an increase for telecom companies to enable them to ameliorate the rising cost of operation.

NATCOMS National President, Adeolu Ogunbanjo, confirmed the appeal to NCC in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, at the weekend.

Ogunbanjo opined that the severe economic atmosphere in the country was affecting the TELCOM operators’ activities and efficiency.

It would be recalled that Nigeria is facing biting economic challenges, with the prices of foreign exchange and petrol rising by more than 200% in the last year.

Naija Daily News gathered that telecos are rationalizing their operations in the wake of exorbitant increase in diesel and other costs associated with their operation.
