A Kaduna State Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand in the correctional facility of one Caleb John, a Point of Sale (POS) operator, who allegedly absconded with his employer’s N1.8 million.
John’s employer, Moses Zachariah, reportedly directed him to transfer N1.8 million into the company’s business account on October 12, but John allegedly offered him an old receipt bearing September 25 without his notice and absconded with the money.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that all efforts to reach John failed.
“The complainant, Moses Zechariah, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kaduna on October 23.
“The defendant was, however, arrested by the police on October 27 at his friend’s residence in Maraba Rido, Kaduna,” Leo said.
John is being prosecuted for alleged criminal breach of trust and stealing but pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
He urged the court to remand the defendant to enable him to conclude investigations.
The Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, remanded the defendant in a correctional facility.
He subsequently adjourned the case until November 21 for a hearing.
