The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis passed away following a cerebral stroke, which led to a coma and ultimately resulted in irreversible heart failure.
This official statement came about 12 hours after the initial announcement of his death.
According to the death certificate released on Monday, the 88-year-old pontiff experienced a stroke that caused a coma, eventually leading to cardiac failure.
Naija Daily News reports that the Pope died on Easter Monday, just a day after delivering a blessing to thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
