A woman identified as Esther has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday after Esther left her home to meet the man. A resident of the area, identified as Dauda, said Esther informed her sister that she was heading to a bank in Dei-Dei but never returned.
According to Dauda, the woman’s elder brother later received a phone call that night from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend, informing him of her death. The caller reportedly claimed that Esther had visited his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she allegedly began vomiting.
Dauda said the boyfriend claimed he rushed Esther to Kubwa General Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment. He added that the man did not disclose his name or address during the call.
“Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, telling her sister she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She, however, did not return home,” Dauda said. “Later that night, her brother received an anonymous call from a man who said he was her boyfriend and that she had died after falling ill.”
He further stated that since the call, the boyfriend’s phone line, as well as Esther’s phone, had been switched off, raising further concern among family members.
When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police were aware of the incident.
“We are aware of the incident and investigation is ongoing,” she said.
