The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle in Gassol the Local Government Area.
In a statement released Friday, police spokesperson James Lashen Saminu said the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in collaboration with local hunters, raided a suspected hideout in Mahadi Forest around 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2025.
The suspects—20-year-old Yahaya Umar from Gamu village and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar from Belango village in Karim-Lamido—were apprehended during the operation. According to the police, both men confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Plateau and Taraba states.
Commending the successful operation, Commissioner of Police Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin praised the officers’ swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety across the state.
She also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.
