The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist and armed robber in Asaba.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Command disclosed that the arrest was made on June 9 following credible intelligence and a targeted raid on a local food canteen.
The operation was carried out by the DOPS Buffalo Team, led by DSP Charles Evboifo. The canteen, reportedly a known hideout for cultists, was stormed by the officers during the raid.
During the operation, 40-year-old Kingsley Ugochukwu was arrested. Upon spotting the police, he allegedly attempted to discard a locally made Beretta pistol, which was later recovered by the operatives.
The statement reads: “During the preliminary investigation, the suspect made a suspicious call to his wife which prompted the operatives to expand the investigation.
“It was later revealed that the suspect ordered his wife to check his bedroom and dispose of another long-range single-barrel gun in an uncompleted building.
“The Suspect’s wife was arrested and her confession led to the recovery of the other single-barrel gun.
The recent operation, the police said is a part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and security in the metropolis and across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi assured the public of the Command’s commitment to tackling crimes and other related vices.
He urged members of the public to partner with the Police by providing useful, timely and credible information to the Police.
