The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 78 suspects and the recovery of a large cache of weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen property during recent operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Ibrahim Bakori disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano. He described the development as part of the command’s sustained efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety.
Among the notable arrests was that of 32-year-old Sulaiman Danwawu, a well-known drug dealer from Tudun Yola Quarters. Danwawu, previously arraigned in 2022 for possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was re-arrested with more illicit substances.
The CP also reported the arrest of a suspected armed robber in possession of two Beretta pistols and ten live rounds of ammunition.
Between April 23 and May 9, 2025, the command apprehended five armed robbery suspects, seven drug dealers, one cattle rustler, four fraudsters, 13 thieves, and 48 suspected thugs (Yan Daba).
Recovered items include two pistols, various hard drugs (Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine, Cannabis), eight vehicles, three tricycles, two motorcycles, 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, counterfeit currency ($198 and ₦311,000), five sheep, two rams, 12 mobile phones, a generator alternator, and other household items.
Dr. Bakori emphasized that these arrests highlight the effectiveness of the command’s crime-fighting strategies, particularly against drug-related offenses that often fuel violent crimes.
He noted a decline in phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft in the state, and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and order. The CP urged residents to support law enforcement with credible information and thanked the media and the public for their continued cooperation.
