The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 68-year-old woman, Mrs. Victoria Madubuko of Ndiambe Ozuitem in Bende Local Government Area, for allegedly flogging a 22-year-old girl, Miss Nnenna Eke, to death.
Mrs. Madubuko was said to have used a traditional cane known as Okpete during an altercation with the victim. The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, confirmed the incident while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia.
According to Isa, the deceased developed complications following the beating and was rushed to Tochi Hospital, where she eventually died. “The corpse of the victim has been deposited at Akaelu mortuary in Bende LGA, while the suspect has been taken into custody. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia, has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter,” the CP stated.
In a separate incident, the Command also confirmed the arrest of one Chimaobi Nwanne, who allegedly stabbed a 31-year-old man, Chinonso Chukwuemeka of Abayi village, to death during a quarrel over a business transaction.
The police chief explained that the victim was rushed to Akachukwu Hospital, Eastern Ngwa, but was confirmed dead by doctors. Nwanne reportedly fled to Umuezenta Mbasi village after committing the crime but was tracked down and apprehended by operatives from Eastern Ngwa Division.
CP Isa assured that both cases are under active investigation and pledged that justice would be served.
