The Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for one Timothy Gilbert, who allegedly doused his girlfriend, 40-year-old Angela Ogah, with acid in the Ihovbe Quarters area of Benin City.
Command spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack at Ikpoba Hill.
According to Yamu, the incident followed a heated argument fuelled by suspicions of infidelity, during which Gilbert allegedly resorted to violence.
He urged couples to avoid abusive relationships, stressing that “love is not by force.”
Ogah is said to be in critical condition and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while Gilbert has reportedly fled the community to evade arrest.
Her lawyer, John Izegaegbe, has petitioned the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, calling for urgent intervention and justice for the victim.
