The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a violent cult network in Port Harcourt following a deadly clash between rival factions of the DEYGBAM secret cult group — the Blood Suckers (BS) and D12.
The confrontation, which broke out in May 2025 in the Diobu area of the city, claimed several lives and instilled fear among residents.
In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest of eight suspects identified as Diepreye Gogo-Abite, 43; Godsfollow Monday, 30; Ifeanyi Sampson, 28; Gift Emmanuel, 28; Friday Godwin, 24; Chukwemeka Dike, 31; Brown Otu, 23; and Dieseyi Ukulu, 43.
Recovered items from the suspects included a Scorpion VZ61 submachine gun, a fabricated English-made Beretta pistol, live ammunition, and a pair of sunglasses reportedly used to conceal the weapons.
“Efforts to recover more arms, arrest additional suspects, and dismantle other cult networks are ongoing,” Iringe-Koko stated. She also revealed that the cult’s alleged chief armourer, Chidiebere Nwaiwu, alias Daddy, who was previously arrested, died in hospital shortly after his detention. His body has been preserved for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the officers for their diligence and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
