The Enugu State Police Command has rescued six trafficked children and arrested 10 suspects connected to local and transnational child trafficking syndicates during coordinated operations between June 30 and July 16, 2025.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the breakthrough in a statement on Saturday, describing it as part of the command’s intensified efforts to combat child trafficking and theft.

Among the rescued victims are a 14-year-old girl trafficked to Ghana and a one-year-seven-month-old boy. On July 15, operatives from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, working alongside Neighbourhood Watch members, arrested two suspects—64-year-old Chiaha Josephine and 67-year-old Ozomma Christopher Ubanagum—in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

Two children—16-year-old Loveth Mfonobong and 12-year-old Benjamin Alex Okon—were rescued during the operation. According to the police, Josephine admitted to purchasing Loveth in 2021 for N900,000 and Benjamin in 2024 for N1.4 million.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, praised the swift actions of the operatives and urged parents to remain vigilant.

“We commend the professionalism of our personnel and caution parents to protect their children and steer clear of any form of trafficking,” he said.

The command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting children and encouraged the public to share credible information that could aid ongoing investigations. Additional suspects will be charged in court following further investigation, while efforts to apprehend others still at large are ongoing.
