The Imo State Police Command has caught a man suspected to be a member of a kidnap ring that also specializes in organ harvesting and trafficking.
The suspected, Justine Emmanuel, 38, was arrested when the police and vigilante group foiled the abduction of a 19-year-old female victim in the state capital.
According to the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okoye Henry, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, the suspect was arrested in a sting operation around the Douglas suburb in Owerri, the state capital.
He said, “The arrest followed the swift response of vigilant operatives on visibility patrol, who observed the syndicate in a blue and white bus forcefully taking a young girl to an undisclosed location where they intended to kill her and harvest her organs.”
The police engaged in a hot pursuit, leading to the abandonment of the vehicle and the arrest of 38-year-old Justine Emmanuel, while others escaped into the nearby bush.
“The young girl is now safe,” he said.
