The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and five alleged thugs during an operation at Jaoji Quarters in the Kano metropolis.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes in the state.
According to Haruna, the operation was carried out on January 10 by officers attached to the Jaoji Police Division under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s nationwide strategy to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
He said a 25-year-old suspect, Hafizu Ali, identified as a drug dealer and resident of Jaoji Quarters, was arrested alongside five suspected thugs. During the operation, police recovered a large quantity of illicit substances, including 2,070 suspected Pregabalin capsules and 23 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa.
Haruna added that weapons recovered from the suspected thugs included four knives, two pairs of scissors and an axe.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, while also appreciating the residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with the police.
The police spokesperson said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
