Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a key suspect linked to the abduction and killing of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri.
According to the statement, a report was filed at the Agbor Division on October 7, 2025, about a missing person identified as Friday Orumgbe, a 53-year-old resident of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who left home the previous day with his Lifan motorcycle and never returned.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, launched an investigation that led to the arrest of Musa Buhari, 25, from Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16. The victim’s phone, a Tecno T101 handset, was recovered from him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with one Manu Usman (currently at large) to lure the victim into a bush along Power Line, near Oki, Agbor, under the pretence of being passengers. They allegedly attacked Orumgbe with a hoe, stole his motorcycle and phone, and left him for dead.
“Acting on the confession, police operatives, led by the DPO, visited the crime scene on October 17, where the decomposed body of the victim was recovered. The remains were later identified by family members and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy,” Edafe said.
He added that the suspect remains in custody while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice.
In a separate operation, a patrol team of ‘B’ Division, Warri, apprehended a suspected cultist and armed robber during a night patrol around the Ubeji community.
Acting on the directive of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, to intensify night patrols following a resurgence of cult clashes, officers intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with registration number KWL359DS (ABUJA) around 3:00 a.m. on October 19.
The occupants, identified as Christian Agbajor Akpos (33) and Sophia Thomas (26), were unable to explain their movement at such odd hours. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Akpos is a member of the Maphite Confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He allegedly confessed that the firearm was given to him by one Mr Shimaye, said to be the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community.
Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue to track down other members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, lauded their professionalism and swift action, reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-based policing.
He emphasized that the police would “continue to sustain efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements and safeguard lives and property.”
The Delta Police Command has recorded several breakthroughs in recent months. In August 2025, it announced the arrest of 211 suspects, recovery of ₦8.5 million ransom, 18 firearms, and over 350 rounds of ammunition. More recently, in October 2025, operatives intercepted 400 rounds of live ammunition at the Asaba Bridge Head and arrested a suspect linked to illegal arms trafficking in the region.
