The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate, leading to the recovery of AK-47 rifles and other exhibits.

The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Asaba.

Edafe said police received a distress call after a young man was abducted from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku and taken away. The kidnappers, after collecting a ransom of N2 million, reportedly shot the victim in the leg for not providing more money.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police immediately deployed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad led by CSP Godwin Osadolor. The operatives stormed the Ogwashi-Uku bush, rescued the victim with a gunshot wound, and launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“Following an intelligence-led investigation, operatives arrested Chukwuebuka Nka and Uche Okechukwu in Anambra State, and recovered the victim’s white Venza SUV from them,” the statement read.

The suspects’ confessions, Edafe added, led to the arrest of an 18-year-old accomplice, Somto Chukwuma, at Agidiase village in Ogwashi-Uku, where a Toyota Matrix vehicle and a network jammer circuit device were recovered.

In a separate operation, operatives also dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate in the Ekpan area of the state.

Acting on intelligence, a team led by CSP Labe Joseph, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan, arrested two suspects — 36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore — who had earlier threatened to kill a community security guard for confronting them while they attempted to steal a vehicle battery on September 11.

“Based on Elvis Ebroghro’s confession, police intensified their operations and arrested another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. A follow-up search led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle hidden in an isolated building in the Ometan community,” the statement concluded.
