The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly masterminding the abduction of his friend and collecting a ransom of ₦5.3 million alongside his gang members.
According to the police, Victor lured his unsuspecting friend to a location in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area, where he was kidnapped by the suspect’s criminal associates. A ransom, paid in dollars equivalent to ₦5.3 million, was collected before the victim regained freedom.
Police spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed in a statement on Sunday that operatives from the Uli Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspect on Friday, June 26, 2025. He added that Victor is currently cooperating with the investigation.
“The suspect confessed to orchestrating the abduction by deceiving his friend into accompanying him under the pretense of visiting another acquaintance. To cover his tracks, Victor pretended to have also been kidnapped during the operation,” the statement revealed.
The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang. Victor will be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded.
