The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of its Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, has elected Senator Mao Ohabunwa as the new Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).

Ohabunwa emerged on Friday following a meeting held at the official residence of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister in Abuja, where Isah Dansidi was also elected as Secretary of the board.

Speaking during the inauguration, Abdulrahman said the reconstitution of the board was part of efforts to restore integrity, fairness, and public trust in the party.

“We have come together not merely to inaugurate a new board of trustees but to renew our faith in the ideals that gave birth to this great political family — justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law,” he stated.

The acting chairman lamented that internal disputes and disregard for party principles had derailed the PDP in recent years. He criticized the previous BoT leadership under Senator Adolphus Wabara, saying it “lost its moral balance,” and defended Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter as “a difficult but necessary step.”

Abdulrahman further blamed past leadership failures on the abandonment of zoning arrangements before the 2015 elections, which he said led to disunity and loss of public confidence.

He pledged that the new leadership would rebuild the PDP on transparency and constitutional order. “The PDP will never again be held hostage by impunity, manipulation, or disregard for its own constitution,” he said. “We will restore public trust and make the PDP once again the moral voice of Nigeria’s democracy.”

Present at the meeting were the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, among other party leaders.
