Residents of the Aduragbemi community in Ido-Osun, Osun State, took to the streets on Friday to protest the collapse of a newly tarred road that was washed away by rain just a day after its completion.

Carrying placards and marching through the affected area, the protesters accused the contractor of delivering substandard work and called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to take swift action.

The residents expressed outrage that the road, which was tarred on Wednesday, May 14, failed within 24 hours following a rainfall on Thursday, May 15. They urged the state government to investigate the project and ensure accountability.

According to social media user Adekeye Moses, the road—stretching from Trade Fair/Ido-Osun Junction to Adeleke Estate via Aduramigba—was allegedly constructed with laterite instead of the approved stone base, sparking concerns over the quality and durability of the work.

Community members are demanding that the road be reconstructed using proper materials and that those responsible for the poor execution be held to account.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the contractor nor government officials had publicly addressed the incident.

However, in a brief response, the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the contractor had been issued a query. He also noted that the Ministry of Works would release an official statement soon.

“The contractor is already being queried. The Ministry will issue a statement shortly,” Rasheed said.
