Former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has dismissed widespread rumours circulating on social media claiming that he had passed away, describing the reports as the work of mischief makers.

In a personal message to Ndi Anambra, friends and well-wishers, Obiano said he woke up to the disturbing rumour but assured the public that he is “alive, hale, hearty and in excellent health.”

“My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers, I woke to hear of a rumour making the rounds about my well-being,” he wrote. “Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.”

Obiano lamented that some individuals “still find joy in spreading falsehood” but stated that he remains focused and guided by God’s grace. He thanked everyone who reached out with calls, messages, and prayers, saying their concern meant more than words could express.

“Please disregard the rumour entirely. We remain focused, grateful, and guided by God’s grace. Daalu nu, and may God bless you all,” he added.

Former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, C. Don Adinuba, also refuted the claims on Friday, describing them as false, misleading, and deliberately mischievous. He said he had personally spoken with the former governor and confirmed that Obiano is “hale and hearty” and currently residing in the United States, not the United Kingdom as suggested by viral posts.

“Obiano has never lived in the United Kingdom. He resides in the United States of America. I just spoke with him now,” Adinuba stated, cautioning the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic among Obiano’s family, associates, and the people of Anambra State.

Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, hails from Aguleri in Anambra East and served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022.
