The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned Corps members against using social media in ways that could damage the reputation of the Scheme or the country. Instead, they were urged to create and share content that positively reflects Nigeria and the NYSC.
NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, issued the warning on Friday while addressing the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku. According to a statement posted on the Scheme’s official X handle, the DG stressed that negative online conduct would attract sanctions.
He also admonished Corps members to avoid unauthorized travel and comply strictly with camp regulations. “Follow simple instructions, be obedient, go for your biometrics and your Community Development Service. Learn and respect the cultural values of your host communities and do not misrepresent us at your place of primary assignment,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, presented a situation report indicating that 2,101 Corps members — 944 male and 1,157 female — had been deployed to the state. He noted that camp activities were running smoothly, with officials and Corps members showing high levels of discipline.
The development mirrors a similar admonition issued by Brigadier General Nafiu to Batch ‘C’ Corps members in Rivers State, where he urged them to uphold the core values of the Scheme — patriotism, integrity, efficiency, transparency, and commitment — throughout their service year and beyond.
