The Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Okey Ikechukwu, has said that recent public statements by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai could constitute a national security concern and may justify intervention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Tuesday morning, Ikechukwu argued that El-Rufai’s remarks went beyond routine political commentary and amounted to specific allegations involving sensitive security communications.
According to him, the former governor’s claim that the National Security Adviser’s communication lines were tapped suggests a possible breach in protected government surveillance systems and raises serious institutional implications.
He said such disclosures from a former senior public official should not be treated lightly, stressing that confidentiality obligations extend beyond time in office where national security matters are concerned.
“When someone in public office breaches confidentiality, it is not just a privacy violation; it poses a serious threat to national security infrastructure. The DSS has grounds to arrest him,” Ikechukwu said during the broadcast.
He emphasized that present and former officials entrusted with classified or sensitive information have a duty to protect it, warning that public exposure of such matters could weaken confidence in government security frameworks and operational safeguards.
Ikechukwu called on relevant authorities to urgently review the situation and conduct a proper investigation, adding that appropriate legal action should follow if any wrongdoing is established.
