The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ruled out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s chances of clinching the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2027 general election, stating it is “simply not going to happen.”

During a live media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike remarked that despite Atiku’s repeated pledges to Nigerians, he has consistently faced rejection. Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2023, recently argued that, had he been elected, his government would have taken a different path from President Bola Tinubu’s, aiming to alleviate current economic challenges.

Wike stated: “Did he (Atiku) not present his blueprint to Nigerians? Did they choose him? He’s pushing for another chance, but there won’t be one. In which party? How long can we keep backing the same person?

“Consider America. Many people didn’t support Trump, citing concerns about racism and other issues, but Americans ultimately made a choice for what they believed would benefit their country.

“You presented your blueprint in 2023. Nigerians listened and politely declined. Criticisms don’t mean the opposition is succeeding.”
