The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains on Monday morning over Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states, extending across the northern region later in the day. The agency warned of possible flash floods in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.

For the central region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Monday morning, with moderate rains likely over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecast later in the day.

In the south, cloudy conditions with moderate rains are expected Monday morning in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, spreading across most parts of the region by evening.

On Tuesday, the north will witness cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains later in the day across Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi.

The central states are expected to remain cloudy with sunshine intervals on Tuesday morning, with moderate rains likely over Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa, while thunderstorms with moderate rains will set in later across Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.

In the south, cloudy skies with moderate rains are expected Tuesday morning in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, before spreading more widely by evening.

On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected in the north, with chances of light rains in Sokoto and Zamfara in the morning. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast over Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

The central region will record light rains on Wednesday morning in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains later in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger. In the south, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, with moderate rains developing in the afternoon and evening.

NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving in heavy rainfall, farmers to delay fertiliser and pesticide application before rains, and residents to secure loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid sheltering under trees during storms.

Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning, while residents were encouraged to follow updates via the agency’s website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
