The boxing community is grieving the loss of former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, who tragically passed away after collapsing during a fight in Ghana on Saturday.
Olanrewaju was facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena when he suddenly lost consciousness.
Reports suggest he was ahead on points at the time of the incident.
A video widely shared on social media shows the heartbreaking moment he collapsed in the ring, leaving fans and the boxing world in shock.
Olanrewaju, a revered figure in Nigerian boxing, held both the National and West African light-heavyweight titles during his career. His significant contributions to the sport have earned him widespread recognition, with tributes pouring in from fellow boxers, fans, and sports officials who remember his dedication and lasting influence on boxing in Nigeria and West Africa.
