Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has threatened legal action against what he describes as a renewed wave of online harassment, cyberstalking, and coordinated defamatory content targeted at him.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Communications Team in Abuja, the senator condemned the rise in what he termed “false narratives” aimed at smearing his reputation and distracting him from his public responsibilities.
“Our attention has been drawn to a renewed pattern of online harassment, cyberstalking, and coordinated defamatory videos and publications targeted at Sen. Ned Nwoko,” the statement read. “These actions appear calculated to create a false narrative of persecution to serve ulterior motives.”
The statement noted that the lawmaker remains fully focused on his legislative and developmental duties and has no interest in “online distractions or fabricated drama.” It added that grave allegations must be addressed through proper legal channels rather than through misinformation or emotional manipulation.
Warning against the growing culture of shielding wrongdoing, the statement said: “Today, falsehood may be deployed against one individual; tomorrow, it may be directed at anyone.”
To this end, Nwoko has directed his lawyer to submit petitions to the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime Unit), requesting an investigation and prosecution of those behind the alleged cyber harassment and criminal defamation. The team said relevant digital footprints would be traced to ensure lawful action is taken.
The statement also urged the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom to be wary of attempts to “stage artificial drama around a stable family structure” for the purpose of securing undue advantages, including frivolous asylum claims. It encouraged authorities to rely on verified facts rather than sensationalised narratives.
Nigerians were advised to disregard circulating false claims and allow legal processes to run their course.
“The senator remains focused on his work and continues to uphold dignity, responsibility, and due process,” the statement added.
