Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment containing 46 wraps of cocaine, weighing 547 grams, hidden in body cream and bound for Saudi Arabia.

This was revealed in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.

According to Babafemi, the interception comes just a week after NDLEA operatives with the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) uncovered 20 parcels of cocaine concealed inside religious books, also en route to Saudi Arabia via a logistics firm in Lagos.

The latest seizure occurred on Wednesday, April 23, at another courier company in Lagos. On the same day, officers also intercepted a separate package containing 1.8kg of pentazocine injection and 60 grams of bromazepam tablets destined for Canada.

They were caught attempting to smuggle a combined 4.8 kilograms of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, into Nigeria. The suspects were identified as Haziza Zubairu (42), Samirat Mustapha (43), and Jamila Salifu (26).

Additionally, in Kano State, NDLEA operatives apprehended a 60-year-old grandmother, Safiya Shamsu, on Friday, April 25, at the Samegu area of Kumbotso LGA with 5.6kg of skunk, a type of cannabis. Another suspect, Muntari Labaran (35), was arrested in Yelwa, Dala LGA, after being found in possession of 100 litres of codeine syrup.

In Edo State, NDLEA officers raided two cannabis farms in Ugbodu community, Ovia North East LGA, destroying a total of 3,814.9kg of skunk. Three individuals—Samuel Samson (26), Daniel Peter (20), and Abel Edah (31)—were arrested during the operation on Thursday, April 24.

Meanwhile, the agency continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, organizing awareness lectures across various institutions. Recent events included sensitization sessions at Dan-Doro Community Arabic Secondary School in Katsina, St. James Anglican School in Kebbi, and Federal Government Girls College, Tambuwal, in Sokoto.

Other advocacy efforts included an engagement with the Oganiru age grade group in Onitsha, Anambra, and a courtesy visit by NDLEA’s Lagos State Strategic Command to the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi.
