The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration has seized expired food and other items worth N87.5 from yet unnamed warehouse and supermarkets in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
NAFDAC’s officials uncovered the items in a warehouse in Zone 4, Wuse, Abuja, which Naija Daily News learnt is owned by some Asian businessmen.
A post on the agency’s verified ‘X’ page said the warehouse was “stocked with large quantities of expired and unregistered food products.”
During the operation, NAFDAC officials discovered that the facility was reportedly revalidating expired items to resell them on the market.
“The raid extended to a supermarket in Wuse 2, Abuja, where products from the warehouse were allegedly being sold to unsuspecting consumers.
“Both locations were immediately shut down to allow for further investigation.”
Among the confiscated items were Cornitos Crusties Nacho, Chaunky Mango, Mother’s Recipe, Nacho Crisp, Paneer Makhani, Palak Paneer, and Dal Tadka.
“The haul is valued at approximately N87.5 million”, the agency added.
