A personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, Aircraftman (ACM) Anas Muhammed Fakai, has been arrested by troops of the 12 Brigade at Kabba Junction in Lokoja for allegedly conveying firearms to Abuja.

Fakai was apprehended at about 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday in a joint operation involving operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He was reportedly found with two pump-action guns and a Browning pistol.

According to military sources, the airman, who serves with the 107 AIR Maritime Group on Airport Road, Benin, Edo State, claimed during interrogation that the weapons were meant for delivery to a police constable, Mohammed Auwal Haliru, attached to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, who also works as an orderly to a Commissioner of Police. He further alleged that the firearms were handed over to him by one Inspector Paul, said to be serving at the Government House in Benin.

Preliminary checks also revealed that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019.

He is currently in custody alongside the recovered weapons, pending further directives, according to a Special Situation Report from the military. Authorities have yet to disclose whether other security personnel mentioned in the case have been detained or remain under investigation.

The arrest came just days after troops of the 12 Brigade intercepted a vehicle transporting a large consignment of cannabis from Ekiti State to Kogi State. The army said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the movement of illicit substances that fuel banditry and violent crimes across the state.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, the troops confirmed that the interception occurred on November 24, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search at the Agbede Response Area. The vehicle, a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU, was reportedly headed to Obajana, a location long identified as a hotspot for bandit activities.
