Several people were feared dead on Friday night after a tipper truck lost control and crashed into bystanders near Chisco Park Junction in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The tragic incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m., was reportedly caused by brake failure. Eyewitnesses said the driver, in a desperate attempt to halt the vehicle, veered off course and rammed into people along the roadside.

According to eyewitness accounts gathered by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), many of the victims were engaged in evening business activities or waiting to board vehicles when the truck struck.

Among those feared dead were motorcyclists, a young girl, bystanders, and petty traders. Several bodies were reportedly seen lying lifeless at the scene.

Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the area also captured the moment of the crash, corroborating witness statements.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mrs. Margaret Onabe, said the command was still compiling detailed information about the crash. She assured reporters that more updates would be provided as investigations progress.
