Security has been beefed up around the private residence of Vice President Kashim Shettiam in Maiduguri, Bornon State, following a failed attempt to break into the house on Wednesday morning.
A 35-year-old man, identified as Musa Ibrahim, was shot in the leg and arrested during the incident, which occurred around 5:00 a.m.
Security sources said the suspect attempted to scale a perimeter wall of the VP’s residence from the Gadabul River State on the western area of the property, located in New GRA, Gwange 3 Ward, off Bama Road.
An intelligence report of the incident indicated that “security personnel saw Ibrahim trying to flee the scene but was shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended”.
He was immediately taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical treatment and is reportedly recovering.
The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
