Lagos State authorities have sealed DONALD Restaurant, a popular nightlife joint in Lekki Phase 1, after it was linked to illegal refuse dumping along Durosimi-Etti Street.
The clampdown followed a swift alert by the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA), whose security team caught a white Ford van (Abuja plate number GWA 136E) red-handed dumping waste in the area.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the van was traced back to the DONALD Restaurant, located on Road 14 within the estate.
“The suspects tried to bribe the security team with ₦100,000, but the offer was rejected. They were handed over to the authorities immediately,” Wahab said in a statement.
Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) moved in quickly. Its Monitoring and Compliance team sealed the restaurant’s premises, citing “gross environmental violations” under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
“This kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated — not in Lekki, not anywhere in Lagos,” said LAWMA MD, Muyiwa Gbadegesin.
Another property, Viva Bella Court II in Lekki Peninsula, was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater into drains and allowing septic tanks to overflow into the environment.
Officials say these incidents are part of a worrying trend: businesses and residences are flouting basic sanitation rules and putting public health at risk.
The state government said it is tightening enforcement across Lagos.
“Everyone has a role to play in keeping Lagos clean,” Wahab warned. “And no violator will go unpunished.”
